The 2024 Wage Survey Report by the Canadian Nursery and Landscape Association (CNLA) offers a comprehensive analysis of compensation patterns. This survey aimed to gather data from businesses across different provinces to understand regional variations in wages, employment numbers, and business growth trends.
Survey Key Findings
- Ontario leads the survey participation with 137 respondents, accounting for 41 percent of the total. British Columbia and Alberta follow with 83 and 56 respondents, respectively.
- Wages across various roles show significant variation. Landscape Managers1 command the highest median wage at $35.00 per hour.
- Entry-level positions like Nursery/Greenhouse Workers and Crew Members/Labourers earn lower wages, with a median wage of $17.40 and $23.00, respectively.
- There has been a noticeable increase in wages since 2018, with managerial and supervisory roles seeing the most significant growth, indicating a growing emphasis on leadership in the industry.
- British Columbia generally offers the highest wages across several roles, particularly for Landscape Designers and Garden Centre/Nursery Managers positions.
- Manitoba consistently offers lower wages across most categories, indicating a less competitive market or lower cost of living.
- Common benefits across the industry include flexible working hours, paid training opportunities, and health benefits, with the highest offerings in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario.

Survey Participation
The survey collected responses received from 347 businesses operating across Canada. However, not all participants answered every question; which may result in a slight variation of +/-10 responses in different sections of the data presented in the report.
